A little personal lesson on what "Health Insurance" regulation will do. Dakota County (the County I work in) is considering dropping it's mental health coverage because a regulation enacted under Bush that is just now become "active" would force insurance companies to expand Mental Health coverage in some specific ways and increase costs to employer provided insurance. So rather than pay more, the County will likely just drop the Mental Health coverage entirely.
Here is an article on it:
http://employmentlawpost.com/hrnews/200 ... ry-1-2010/It would cost the County an extra 40,000 a year for this extra coverage, so the options are- find the money somewhere (possibly tax increases), decrease pay or hiring freeze, or remove the coverage. You can't demand extra health coverage and not expect it to be paid for. Hence, why I have opposed new regulations on the Health Insurance companies, at least in terms of mandatory coverage. Someone pays for it, or someone looses something.
