Ready for Socialized Health Care?

http://www.thelocal.se/28150/20100803/

He had to sew up his own leg...
I heard he may be in trouble for practicing medicine without a license...

Jonas, 32, sewed up his own leg after ER wait

A 32-year-old took the needle into his hands when he tired of the wait at Sundsvall hospital in northern Sweden and sewed up the cut in his leg himself. The man was later reported to the police for his impromptu handiwork.

"It took such a long time," the man told the local Sundsvall Tidning daily.
The man incurred the deep cut when he sliced his leg on the sharp edge of a kitchen stove while he was renovating at home.

"I first went to the health clinic, but it was closed. So I rang the medical help line and they told me that it shouldn't be closed, so I went to emergency and sat there," the man named only as Jonas told the newspaper.

After an hour-long wait in a treatment room, he lost patience and proceeded to sew up his own wound.

"They had set out a needle and thread and so I decided to take the matter into my hands," he said.

But hospital staff were not as impressed by his initiative and have reported the man on suspicion of criminal dispossession for having used hospital equipment without authorization.

While Jonas admitted to the newspaper that he has no prior experience of sewing up himself he sought to play down the fuss that his handiwork has caused, arguing that "through the ages people have always sewn themselves up".

My grandson went to ER and the doctor super glued the cut on his head from a fall off the slide at the park next door to our house. My husband has always been a do-it-yourself-er and very good at gluing things...maybe next time

Being the only Swede around here, I feel I have to write something.

I read about this and many similar cases. But health care is improving under our centre-rightwinged government which we got in 2006. They've cut the waiting times in half since they took over, and they used only 1 billion crowns (150 million dollars) to do this. The socialists used 46 billion crowns for the same purpose (6.5 billion dollars) when they were in charge, and waiting times increased!

They didn't use taxpayer money efficiently. This government is.

Sundsvall is a neighbouring town (well, we're in the same region). A socialist stronghold too. Anyone surprised?

I just hope we Swedes are smart enough to re-elect our current government on the 19th of september this year. The polls show our government with small leads (1-5 %), which is great seeing as they were down 20-25 % in the polls two year ago.

I am glad to have your input on this.
Encouraging to know there is always a road out and your country is already embarking on it. For now at least, we seem to be going down the wrong road on everything from the economy to medicine.
