THE RIGHT THING TO DO: Huckabee To Endorse Marco Rubio
http://ktracy.com/?p=3830

Huckabee email message today:
Quote:
Please make a contribution today in support of our efforts to elect Republicans to the Senate. While we may not be able to block liberal Judge Sotomayor, we must be prepared for future nominations. Electing more Republicans to the Senate then is critical.

Your contribution or $5, $10, $25 or $50 will be invested in the candidates for Senate Huck PAC endorses. Candidates such as Marco Rubio of Florida.

Alright troops...let's get Rubio in!

Email slip reveals Huckabee plan to endorse Rubio

An errant HuckPAC email seems to have revealed Mike Huckabee's plan to endorse Marco Rubio in Florida's Senate race.

HuckPAC sent the fundraising email to supporters today, which includes Marco Rubio's name as the type of candidate contributions will go to. The slip is scrubbed from HuckPAC's official newsletter.

Rubio, of course, endorsed Mike Huckabee in the 2008 primaries. If Huck were, indeed, to return the favor, it's a sign he's moving further from the establishment that never really trusted him.

The errant email (emphasis added):

The appointment of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court is the clearest indication yet that President Obama's campaign promises to be a centrist and think in a bi-partisan way were mere rhetoric.

Sotomayor comes from the far left and will likely leave us with something akin to the "Extreme Court" that could mark a major shift. The notion that appellate court decisions are to be interpreted by the "feelings" of the judge is a direct affront of the basic premise of our judicial system that is supposed to apply the law without personal emotion. If she is confirmed, then we need to take the blindfold off Lady Justice.

With each contribution of $30 or more we will also send you a Team Huck t-shirt.

Fighting for our ideas,

Mike Huckabee

Huckabee to endorse Rubio for Florida Senate seat
Posted: 09:44 AM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
Quote:
Huckabee plans to back Rubio in Florida.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has rolled out a succession of endorsements from national Republicans since announcing his entrance into the 2010 Senate race.

Now his Republican primary rival, former Florida House speaker Marco Rubio, has a national endorsement of his own from a conservative heavyweight: Mike Huckabee.

The former Arkansas governor will formally endorse Rubio in about two weeks, according to a Florida Republican familiar with the plans. The details of where the endorsement will take place have not been decided.

Rubio endorsed Huckabee's presidential bid in late 2007.

Huckabee's political action committee accidentally revealed the endorsement plans in an email to supporters on Tuesday evening that solicited donations for "candidates for Senate Huck PAC endorses."

"Candidates such as Marco Rubio of Florida," the e-mail said.

Rubio's campaign picked up another endorsement closer to home on Wednesday, that of Jeb Bush, Jr., the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The former governor, who remains popular among Republicans in Florida and nationally, is a Rubio mentor, but he has so far avoided weighing in on the Senate race.

well, the message was from HuckPAC so it could have been picked from any number of sources

I'm glad to hear that Jeb Bush Jr is also endorsing Rubio. It would be great to have Jeb Bush do the same but given that Crist was his Lt. Gov, that would be unexpected. My guess is that he will say something along the lines of supporting both.

Maybe I am getting too caught up in political strategy -- but something tells me the "errant e-mail" and the "slip" might have been somewhat intentional.

They (being Huckabee and Rubio) want to pick the best time to announce the endorsement officially -- and possibly Huckabee will do it at some sort of fundraiser -- but he also wanted to "get it out there" that support for Rubio is forthcoming -- for a multitude of reasons.

Remember, last Friday, he suggested on twitter that his followers "follow Marco Rubio" -- at the same time he suggested they follow Bob McDonnell (who Huckabee had already endorsed). In addition, he referenced his support in a fundraiser e-mail. Now it is an old trick that opponents -- or simply those who want a scoop -- make minimal contributions and get onto an individual's "fundraising e-mail list" -- Team Huck camp had to at least consider the possibility that the e-mail could "leak" the message.

So I think that either they didnt' really care -- or maybe they don't mind the leak so much.

The great news is the endorsement!!

I think you are probably right. Politicians "leak" information a lot, usually to test the waters (remember McCain and VP Lieberman?). It actually probably helps because even though Jeb Bush Jr. just came out and endorsed, Mike is pretty much on record of supporting Rubio before that announcement.

I received that Huck PAC email that mentioned Rubio and didn't give it a second thought. A couple of months ago an email from Huck PAC said that same thing about Bob Vander Plaats.

Maybe it was "leaked" this way because it is no suprise that these two would be endorsed by Mike. Rubio endosed Mike and Bob VP was his Iowa campaign chair. Perhaps Huckabee just wanted it to be known that he is behind these two from the start even though there has not been an official endorsement yet.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio received an endorsement this morning from Jeb Bush Jr. and is expected to receive another from former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, according to CNN.

The Huckabee endorsement comes a year after Rubio endorsed the former Arkansas governor in his presidential campaign. (The photo above includes - from left to right - Rubio, Huckabee and state Rep. David Rivera at a 2008 presidential campaign event.)

Rubio is running against Gov. Charlie Crist in a Republican U.S. Senate primary. Crist has been endorsed by six sitting U.S. senators, including Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on Tuesday.

I wonder if Sarah Palin winds up down there before long. And she won't be campaigning for Crist.

This is being played perfectly...

Lots of local and national stories about this...

http://cbs4.com/local/rubio.huckabee.en ... 21021.html

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... nate-seat/

Then another round of stories will happen when the endorsement data/location is announced at Huckabee is going to Florida to do it.

Then another round of stories when it happens.

3 for the price of 1. And the Jeb Bush Jr. story...

Rubio is in great position...what 2012 candidate will want to oppose him? That would be opposing conservatism and Hispanics/party outreach...

I think Rubio v. Crist could turn into a conservative litmus test which would end it for Crist as that would be too much national pressure for him to overcome.

And now if any other 2012 hopeful comes out and endorses Rubio it will just be seen as jumping on the band wagon with Mike Huckabee who first made the bold move against the establishment.

I am really looking forward to watching this race for the FL Senate seat unfold as the establishment(NRSC) vs. the anti-establishment (as it will painted). If and when Rubio when wins, its a will be statement victory for republicans.

David has mentioned this news clip, but I'd like to specifically point out that I have read two accounts of this, including David's reference, and both point to Huckabee's strong conservative credentials.

I guess they were not listening to Hugh Hewitt and Glenn Beck.

Huckabee's conservative credentials have been bolstered by his hard-line stance in support of social conservatism and has most recently hosted his own show on the Fox News Channel.

I am glad to see two friends mutually benefitting from eachothers support and personal convictions.

I don't recall Crist ever being Lt. Governor. He was FLA. Attorney General, and prior to that in the FLA. legislature. Rubio, on the other hand, is often spoken of as a JEB BUSH "protégé".

What I really want to see, (and I hope other folks here will keep their eyes open for it) is what Rubio's poll numbers look like before and after the Huckabee endorsement. And also, who else jumps on the bandwagon. This will be a test of how much influence Huckabee really has, and, which candidates are watching Huck because they are worried about him. What I mean is, other possible 2012 contenders who feel they have to rush to endorse Rubio because they have seen MH do it, because they know he is a threat to them.

I don't see it. I think they ALL will stay with Crist -- unless JEB Bush (or possibly NEWT) endorses Rubio.

The only thing they will understand is if Rubio beats Crist.

That is the only thing DC / DC GOP will understand.

2012 candidates know that they need to break some with GOP Republican's in DC but not too much. If they just stay straight establishment, they will get steamrolled thanks to internet grassroots activism.

I think you could see Newt and Palin back Rubio. Palin only would if Rubio will win or her endorsement will secure his win.
