If Branstad wants to get back into politics he ought to run against Harkin.

Yeah, that would make sense, wouldn't it. But it's not about him getting back into politics. It's about he is the establishment's only shot at taking out Bob VP and silencing the grassroots/social conservatives for good. We humiliated them with Huck's win in 2008 and they are out to gain total control of the party once and for all.

Just thought that I would post this. It is a post I wrote after receiving an email blast from the Branstad campaign. It would appear that he has failed to gather enough signatures on the nominating petition.

That's very encouraging.

Can our Iowan friends give us some bearing on what constitutes Dallas County -- i.e., is it a county Bob would be expected to win, evenly matched or more Branstad-type territory?

Dallas County is a Branstad strong-hold. This is a huge win for Bob but the Branstad campaign is downplaying it because they just don't "do" straw polls.

Bob also won two other straw polls during county conventions. One in his home county and another in a county that isn't so Bob friendly. Good news. Bob seems to have some new momentum. No one (except his thugs) is excited about a Branstad candidacy. No one. People will vote for Branstad because they think he is the only choice. Bob needs to prove them wrong and he is on the right track to do that.

Hang on. Three more months to go.

Excellent, excellent. Reminds me of Rubio when he started winning the straw polls and Crist sort of downplayed its importance -- so did a lot of other people. But Rubio kept on winning the straw polls -- until he won them right in Crist's home down. Now Rubio is a rock star and Crist isn't laughing anymore.

The first of three Iowa gubernatorial debates will be held on Wednesday, April 7, at 1:00 pm CST. These will be huge for Bob Vander Plaats as he needs to get his name recognized across the state in order to defeat Terry Branstad who is a four term previous governor.

I provided the link to the information for this debate as it can be watched live online.

What I request most is prayers for Bob Vander Plaats.

Will definitely be praying for Bob but hoping he remembers his promise to me by wearing the purple tie I gave him for good luck during a debate. He will do awesome.

I am starting to get hacked off. None of these polling companies are doing primary polling. These general election polls mean nothing. I want to see Branstad vs Vander Plaats vs Roberts and see where this race stands. You can assume nothing from the general election polling. we have a few local polling companies that have done primary polls down here and the candidate leading the primary by double digits doesn't fare the best against the Democrat (though almost everyone beats the Democrat).

I WANT TO SEE A GOP PRIMARY POLL IN IOWA NOW!!!! STOP BEATING AROUND THE BUSH AND LET US KNOW WHAT THE SCORE IS!!

Here is a highlight from the second gubernatorial debate that took place on May 1 (no poll was taken). Bob wiped the floor with Terry Branstad. If you want to thank someone for giving us Senator Ben Nelson, just watch the really quick video.......

Didn't see the debate but I hear Bob did excellent and put the hammer down. So Bob won all three debates. Will it be enough? We'll see.

I am very impressed with Bob Vander Plaats. Today I received a handwritten note saying thank you for my donation to Bob's campaign. It's not too often that a politician who is fighting for first in a big race takes the time out to send a personal note.

Does anyone from Iowa have any new news on the ground? Any new polls? Any information on tv ads?

Please keep us up to date.

Thanks!

No polls. Nothing. I kind of like it that way. Rumor has it that the Branstad campaign is doing internal polling and releasing no results. That is a great sign for us. He is also spending a ton of money. He has already spent 2 million this primary and that is outspending ALL of the GOP candidates (not just in the governor's race) by 2 to 1. He is worried. Very, very worried. Someone who is the shoe-in for the nomination does not spend that type of money, especially if they got the Democrat war chest to go up against in Nov.

Branstad is flooding the tv, radio, and mailboxes and robocalls but no grassroots movement. Branstad may have the rich establishment but Bob VP has the tea parties, the Constitution Party, the SOAR and the 9-12 groups, Christians, social conservatives, and libertarians in his corner and they are starting to move on the ground.

Question is: Will Iowa be able to win another David vs Goliath moment?

Bob's first ad has been running full steam since Monday and I believe he has a couple of others. I'm not sure when he will start those.

Thanks for the update. Is there anything we can do to help? Does BVP have a phone bank?

Thanks for wanting to help, Dave. There is no phone bank on Bob's website. What they are doing is mailing the phone bank information to volunteers to call from home.

If anybody wants to see Bob's commercials so far, here they are. The first one started the beginning of this week and the second one started today, so they are both going full tilt right now. The second commercial is a grenade at Branstad. Love it.
