It won't happen if Romney wants to win. A pro-choice VP would the the kiss of death for his campaign.

Dh loves her, he wanted her to run for president. I told him that I've heard she's pretty pro-choice but he doesn't believe me. I don't have anything to point him to on that, just rumors.

Romney might not end up going with Condi, but is he likely to pick someone with foreign policy/military bona fides? I'm trying to think of who that might be. Of those most frequently mentioned, I think only Gov. McDonnell of VA would fit, being a former Lt. Col. in the Army.

edit: the more I look at all the most mentioned possibilities, the more I'm convinced -- my money is on Bob McDonnell. Pro-life, successor potential, swing state, gave Republican response to Obama's SOTU, executive, law enforcment (Att. Gen.) and legislative experience (VA state house). And he's got the look. Not my first choice, of course. 8)

Here's the speech that got everybody talking about Condi again. From Republicanpallooza (Romney Victory Fundraising Retreat)

FF to 4:20 to get to the substance.

I listened to the audio of Condi's speech. She is brilliant, of course. (Although I didn't think this speech was a home run. More party boilerplate.) One plus is: her voice is calm and has a pleasing quality to it, unlike Hillary's strident tone, nor Sarah Palin's nasal midwest twang.

If Mitt picked her, he would pull some of the black vote, and a certain percentage of the black female vote. I'd be curious to know: of the black vote, what percentage is female? ValuesVoter, do you have any info on that?

HOWEVER, Condi is avowedly pro-abortion. Someone needs to teach Condi how abortion is like a holocaust on African-Americans.

That's a great question ... don't know the answer. I would imagine it would be more than half of the black vote, which would probably mean about 6-7% of the total electorate.

I don't think it would be needed, if I understand your question correctly. No Republican Presidential candidate needs help winning South Carolina unless they are truly in trouble. If Mitt needs help winning South Carolina, he has problems that are too big for any running mate to solve. That would be like Obama being in trouble in Maryland.
