Debbie,
You beat me to the post. :)

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_IA_0111930.pdf
Quote:
Q14 If the Republican candidates for President next year were Mitch Daniels, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and John Thune who would you vote for?
Mitch Daniels .................................................. 1%
Newt Gingrich ................................................. 13%
Mike Huckabee ............................................... 30%
Sarah Palin ..................................................... 15%
Ron Paul ......................................................... 6%
Tim Pawlenty .................................................. 4%
Mitt Romney.................................................... 18%
John Thune..................................................... 3%
Someone else/Undecided............................... 10%

Q15 Who would your second choice be as the Republican candidate for President next year?
Mitch Daniels .................................................. 2%
Newt Gingrich ................................................. 12%
Mike Huckabee ............................................... 19%
Sarah Palin ..................................................... 13%
Ron Paul ......................................................... 5%
Tim Pawlenty .................................................. 5%
Mitt Romney.................................................... 9%
John Thune..................................................... 3%
Someone else/Undecided............................... 31%

Meaning Mike is winning both first and second place - unless you count "someone else/undecided" as the second place winner. But, that would have been my answer, too cuz no one has earned my vote yet if Mike doesn't run.

More interesting info from the polling results:

Sarah is the top 2nd choice among Huckabee supporters.
Mike is the top 2nd choice among Newt (31%), Sarah (42%), Ron Paul (28%), and Mitt (29%) supporters and is tied for 2nd choice with Mitt for Pawlenty supporters.

Great news once again! Huck is killing it in the polls right now! People are definitely gravitating toward his civility, likability and charisma. I am so pleased that he has become the likable candidate, however does anyone else worry about him peaking too early?

very nice.

Further evidence that a late start plays to his race. His support is both deep and broad.

They've got a long way to go with promoting Daniels.

YESSSSSSSS!! And I agree with Doc.

These recent positive polls are most likely going to be buried with the AZ tragedy (although Fox always tried to bury Huckabee positive things) but maybe that is not such a bad thing as being above the target leads to "conservative" fire. The longer we can hold off on that onslaught the better. At least we know the support is there and so does Huckabee.

Debbie asked me to blog this on the Right Speak blog site. I did a quick copy and paste from my comments since both of us are going to be gone this afternoon. Here's the link for some of you to defend Mike while we are gone:

I think the fact that Huckabee is doing so well in the polls this early may play well for his announcing later rather than earlier. You know the old "take away" game....people want what they think they can't have and, just when you thought you weren't going to get it, WOW....you find that, yes, maybe you can. As long as he doesn't wait too long and some of his potential supporters would have gone elsewhere. Even then, IMO, most all of them would quickly come back because Huck would have been their first choice.

So when the drama queen decides not to run, Huckabee gets 42% of her votes? Am I understanding this right?

Haha! :P It's always about Palin, isn't it?

If she doesn't run, do you think any media outlet will bother covering the Republican primary race? Everyone in the media seems to kind of assume that she will run, I can imagine they would be so disappointed if she didn't that they just forgot about the race :P
