Rasmussen Reports today places Gingrich at the head of the class with 35 percent of the vote in a nationwide survey of likely Republican voters, up eight points in just one week. Mitt Romney is next with 28 percent, according to Rasmussen.
Rick Santorum is holding steady with 16 percent, while Ron Paul has inched up to 10 percent. Another 2 percent prefer another candidate and 9 percent are undecided.
The poll comes out today as Florida is next up in the primary race. The Sunshine State tally will be taken this coming Tuesday.
Real Clear Politics, an online poll aggregator, has Gingrich ahead in Florida by four points — 36 percent to Romney’s 32 percent.
A Florida Chamber of Commerce poll has Gingrich and Romney tied — at 33 percent. That poll came out Monday.
Quinnipiac University in Connecticut also published a poll early this week that has Romney ahead in Florida over Gingrich, 36 to 34 percent respectively.
“Gingrich continues to ride his surge to the front of the pack,” Rasmussen states.
