The same polling group has huckabee in 4th in SC because they have Lindsey Graham at 17%! Would Graham really run? And if so, are we going to see another event like 2008 where Huckabee wins Iowa and then would win SC but loses support to graham and its enough to give Bush the win? I think Huck needs 1sts in Iowa and SC to get it to a h2h vs bush (or walker if we're lucky).

I don't think he is running, and even if he did, he wouldn't make it to SC. Graham may be hoping to force foreign policy issues, by getting into forums and debates.

If he runs, it is ONLY to make it to SC! He would be putting all of his chips into a landslide win there with hopes of it spurring the south to vote for him in the SEC primary. Hopefully he doesn't run at all. We don't need a SC favorite son to run against Huck.

Scott Walker Dominates Iowa Poll – But Don’t Underestimate Mike Huckabee
Quote:
The fledgling Huckabee campaign is said to already be making significant inroads into Iowa Caucus voters over the last 24 hours with a growing effort to continue in the coming weeks as Team Huckabee feels a strong showing in Iowa will be essential to obtaining the political donations necessary to extend the campaign past the summer months.

Some are suggesting the former Arkansas governor could see himself polling as high as second place in Iowa by the end of the month.

One thing that significantly differentiates Huckabee's numbers from the others is that Huckabee's numbers are hard. On the other hand with the possible exception of Paul, all the other candidate's numbers are soft and fluid. That means that the Huckabee campaign has something to build on that isn't based on hype or being the flavor of the day.

I would contend that Cruz and Carson both have very soft support right now, and both will see declines once the race starts getting serious in November. I think Rubio and Walker are going to slide up and down based on perceived strengths and weaknesses. Only Huckabee and Paul have built-in voters and organizations that are ready to build on.

Based on that, I see the top three in the Iowa caucus consisting of Paul, Huckabee, and someone else, with the order to be determined. I don't think Paul can win because I believe that although his supporters are fiercely loyal there will always be a ceiling that will keep him from doing any better than second. That gives Huckabee a reasonable shot at winning the Iowa caucus.

One Big Wildcard that is looming out there is the upcoming Supreme Court decision in June on gay marriage. If it goes as I believe it will, and the Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriage then this is going to fire up conservative caucus goers and could be an extra edge for whichever candidate catches that wave. Certainly Huckabee could be that candidate.

Been awhile since Huckabee has been on top of an Iowa poll... :?

Don't know why Rubio is so low in this poll compared to previous polls though.

Walker 17
Paul 10
Carson 10
Huckabee 9
Bush 9
Rubio 6
Santorum 6
Cruz 5
Christie 4
Trump 4
Perry 3
Fiorina 2
Kasich 2
Jindal 1

And such a long list of candidates...

5/25 - 5/29

Another one. This poll was taken at the same time as the previous one, but Rubio's and Paul's poll numbers don't match up at all.

Carson 12
Bush 10
Huckabee 8
Cruz 6
Santorum 6
Fiorina 5
Paul 4
Christie 4
Trump
Perry
Kasich
Jindal

Solid numbers.

Walker 18
Huckabee 10
Paul 10
Bush 10
Rubio 7
Christie 6
Carson 5
Trump 5
Cruz 4
Fiorina 2

If Walker stumbles, this would give an opening to Huckabee.

Really does appear that alot of Huck's support has shifted over to Carson. People like the fresh, new guy in politics and Carson fills that void nicely for many. Huck's challange is to win most of that back. Loooong way to go till anyone casts an actual vote.

Just for comparison and context, a September 2007 L.A. Times/Bloomberg poll yielded the following results in Iowa:

Romney ..............28
Thompson ..............16
Giuliani ..............16
Huckabee ..............8
McCain .............. 7
Tancredo .............. 3
Brownback ...............2
Paul .............. 2
Hunter ..............1
Don't Know ..............17

http://media.trb.com/media/acrobat/2007-11/33680430.pdf

Far from the actual results.

Though I'd like the polling numbers to be better (that new Rasmussen national poll is hopefully an outlier), it's waaay to early to put much stock in them right now. People vote, not polls.

They're seeing someone who is strong, speaks his mind and won't get pushed around. In light of 8 years of Obama getting pushed around, bowing, getting taken advantage of at the negotiating table with Iran etc. that's a powerful image.

It's also about peaking at the right time, which means not now. The frontrunner(s) now might very well not be on top come February.

Too low poll numbersnow are not good either though... discouraging for fundraising, media reporting, etc.
