Talked about the tea party on Greta. Interesting he always gets the tea party topic.

This was a great interview by Gov. Huckabee. The way he spelled everything out was very good, i.e. NRA, Prolife organizations. And I have to agree. Make the politicians accountable to the teaparty by emphasizing certain criteria to get their support. Much better than having one leader. My only critique, is Gov. Huckabee should have left off his last line.

I only heard the last couple of minutes and I cringed at the last line.

I agree... He could have definitely left off the last line.

I also wish Mike would have chosen a better ending line - it even made Greta cringe. Otherwise, I liked what he had to say.

Yes, I wish there were some way for us to tell Mike not to use these analogies that have sexual, crude, or violent overtones. They may seem clever, but they turn off many people. They seem inconsistent with his message.

I fear that part of Mike's conservative following will be offended and will not listen to him because of the innuendos he has used. This is the only reason my daughter (who otherwise likes what Huckabee says) will not listen to his programs. Evangelical conservatives (and probably everyone) will hold a former pastor to a higher standard. I think that is OK. That must be part of the burden of who he is. It is also why we love him; we are looking for someone with his conservatism and decency--a leader better than we are and certainly above the pack.

God has gifted Huckabee so much! His ideals and ideas are sound and his mind is sharp. We could enumerate many outstanding qualities. But I do not want people to get the idea Mike Huckabee cannot control his tongue or thoughts. I am praying for him because the temptations are great to anyone who is constantly in the limelight and who is traveling so much.

I think it just shows Gov. Huckabee has a good sense of humor. And, he DOES get the point across.....

He knew the minute he said it -- and with Greta's reaction -- that he shouldn't have. That is the price he pays for having a fount of analogies -- 95% humorous and very instructive in providing simple explanation - 5% falling flat on its face. Nobody gets its right all of the time -- some never get it right any of the time -- but, separating the last five seconds, it was a great interview.

That last line was the ultimate stab at how there is so much anger and disdain for Congrefs. Sometimes, a good slap in the face is what our politicians need.

Not only does America no longer trust the Congrefs, but also no longer respects them for all of the corruption. To say a good number of them probably belong in jail, is not too far off from the truth.

Thus, the pedophile comment giving a cringe, but a relatively worthy analogy to describe how people really feel.

Huckabee commenting on the tenth amendment reminded me of one essayist who described tea party types as "tenthers" (after the manner of birthers). Anyone else heard or seen the term: "Tenthers"?

Angelina Jolie's father, actor Jon Voight stops by 'Huckabee'
And former John Edwards aides tell all!

Love that Jon Voight will be on the show-probably to discuss teaparties, healthcare and the republican party.

But the whole John Edwards segment seems beneath Gov Huckabee-more of a trashy tabloid segment.

I think people would rather hear Gov. Huckabee have a whole segment where Huckabee is telling the folks how he stands on a given issue. Kind of like what he did two weeks ago with healthcare.

Yeah, me too.

From the wiki entry:

Quote:
Opponents use the term in order to draw parallels between adherents and nineteenth century states' rights secessionists, as well as the movement to resist Federal Civil Rights legislation. However, the contemporary controversy surrounding the tenth amendment is largely focused on fiscal issues, with no serious advocacy of segregationist or racial politics.

I'd be interested if TVV has some fresh thoughts on this (I know we have touched some on this before).

"State's rights" has some negative connotation purely from a historical perspective. But, if one removes (for the sake of discussion) the historical circumstances, slavery, Jim Crow, etc., then what should one think of the whole concept of federalism as a mechanism within a certain political philosophy?

IOW, classical Jeffersonian liberals (today's libertarians, sort of) gave us the principles of: government is best which governs least, and the level of government which is appropriate to handle a given function, is the one closest to the people which can handle it. I.E. since municipalities can handle which intersections should have traffic lights, neither the state, nor the federal government should.

What I'm saying is, can we say with purest of hearts that there is a legitimate purpose for the tenth amendment which has nothing to do with invidious racial discrimination, but everything to do with the genius of the American system of checks & balances, and separation of powers, which helps ensure liberty like no other countries constitutions?

I was dissapointed to hear Governor Huckabee say "I don't think Obama is intentionally doing things to hurt the US."
It is obvious at this point as Jon Voight stated in his letter that Obama does know what he is doing and that is to fundamentally transform this country. That transformation is in order to make us a european socialist democracy where the Democrats control everything.
Obama is not that dumb to do everything so obviously backward. He is carefully planning it.
These comments by the governor make Tea Party people upset as you can see if you read the comments from the show for this week.
