I laughed at the preview I saw.
Gun shows and Grateful Dead.. Think that is a compliment.

Jay asked bad questions. Why are the Republicans obsessed with birth certificate, blah blah blah. So Mike kinda came off as more anti-GOP than he is.

Jay asked about VP: Mike said he wasn't thinking about that, and said he didn't think any of the Republicans in the field would ask him.

I take that as a he'd consider it if he were asked.

Like I just posted over on the Draft Huck thread:

Quote:
The good thing is that he would be able to continue on with his shows, and not have to wade through the muck or the expense of a campaign. Then at the last minute, slip in as VP making the ticket 100x stronger than it was (not that they wouldn't go after him then - look what they did to Sarah), then slide into the natural position of "next in line".

I have not seen the full interview yet so I am not sure how good or bad it went.

One thing I can't get over is how well GH can do on both sides of the chair.

Very few talk show hosts fare well being interviewed themselves. They don't seem to be comfortable on the other side. Often the interviews are boring or they want to monopolize the conversation and come across as crass.

And how he gets show hosts to truly like him, like Leno seemed to.

I thought Leno did a good job asking Huckabee about the Kenya brewhaha.

Basically Leno said that it did not sound like the Mike Huckabee that I know, that Mike was always fair. Then he gave Huckabee a chance to talk about it. Huckabee said he did too many interviews that day, he was tired, and he misspoke.

Huckabee also talked about how brutal the primary campaigns can be, that Obama will have billions and no primary challenge, and how the media twists and runs with a non-story.

I thought Huckabee came across as very likeable, reasoned, and someone that both sides of the aisle could vote for. Darn it that he is not running.

I agree. He even had Jack Black (the other guest for the night) clapping at something he said. Mitt could never do that. Mike knows how independents and non-politicos feel about things and reaches them in a non-pandering way. He's the only really smart person on the right in that way.

My guess: 16 years in the White House would be twice as good as 8?

I thought he was great on Leno's show. Unfortunately he is so right with the things that he said about running for President, it being toxic, the media, doing nothing but criticizing Obama and both political parties not working on the ISSUES that are concerning to the American people.

He received a lot of applause from the crowd and I believe that one of the reasons that most people at least respect him, while not agreeing with him on everything - is that he understands that as a whole we are a country and whether you're a Democrat or Republican and since we're in this great country together we need to work together to get things accomplished.

It's another reason why God perhaps had him take this detour. Gov. Huckabee is bringing to the attention of the American people in the most vivid and personal way that choosing a leader based on the best qualifications has become a farce. Perhaps eyes will be opened. I believe the human side of Mike's decision to withdraw from the contention is that the process of election has become so unfair and brutal. His natural tendency not to run is mostly due to concern about the toxicity and failure of the process of elections, not about actually governing as President.

I think Gov. Huckabee would accept the mantle of the highest office with humility. That is why I think he would also accept running as Vice President, in order to actually serve our country. But he is not content or confident that he could get there in this climate.

Regardless, God will continue to lead and to use Mike in various ways outside of the toxic zone.
