If, as many suspect him to, Mike Huckabee announces a presidential bid in Hope, Arkansas, on May 5, he’ll enter the race with some unique advantages. But he’ll also be burdened by a furious rivalry with a conservative activist group likely to have a budget of tens of millions of dollars, a group he’s compared to “suicide bombers” and Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hassan.

Personal charisma and a steady Fox News audience have already propelled Huckabee to the middle of a crowded pack in most polls, just under 8 percent in the RealClearPolitics average. If he were to ascend to the top of the heap, it would be a major defeat for the Club for Growth, the group with which the former Arkansas governor has a bitter feud stretching back nearly a decade. The Club says it’s prepared to devote more resources than ever before to preventing its nemesis from catching fire with voters.

I don't get the "Club for Growth".

But didn't they love Romney in '08?

Maybe they just hated Huckabee more than they loved Romney.

Those at Club for Growth seem to have a deep-seated, unreasonable dislike for Huckabee, just as Glen Beck does. Who can really understand why these guys would waste their time attacking a fellow conservative and not turn their wrath against true liberals who are wrecking our country? Huckabee reached out to the Club for Growth leader on one of his television shows, being exceptionally polite and holding out an olive branch, noting the things that they can agree upon. But there seems to be no genuine desire or ability among Club for Growth leadership to give Gov. Huckabee a fair hearing or a fair shake. The same can be said of Glen Beck.

I don't know why they have to be like that when we're supposedly all wanting the same thing. I guess it shows that Huckabee is the bigger person for trying to work with them.
