Huckabee: We can't bow to judicial tyranny on health care or gay marriage
Mike Huckabee 11:40 a.m. EDT June 25, 2015

"I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square," said Catholic Cardinal Francis George. Cardinal George passed away in April, but the alarm he sounded on religious liberty rings true today.

Just as the Supreme Court ignored the plain language of the Affordable Care Act to deliver a victory to the Obama administration today, many expect the Supreme Court to abuse its power once again in the Obergefell v. Hodgessame-sex marriage case.

If the Court creates a national right to same-sex marriage that doesn't exist in our Constitution, it will hijack the democratic process, subvert the will of Americans in more than 30 states who voted to protect traditional marriage, and trample on America's most fundamental right — religious liberty.

To argue same-sex marriage won't affect anyone but those in a same-sex relationship is either naïve or just plain dishonest. It directly conflictswith the long-standing traditions and teachings of many faiths, setting up a collision with the First Amendment guarantee of religious liberty. Even prior to a Supreme Court decision, there are many examples of businesses fined, penalized or economically terrorized because the owners held to their convictions about marriage based on their religious views.

Governor Huckabee speaks truth, here, regardless of popularity or even his own "safety."

Citing the pope's quote, Huckabee seems to signal the danger he also sees for America, for pastors and churches as well as Christians trying to follow their consciences. (And for himself as a pastor!) We are witnessing the plan of socialists from the 1960's, including Gloria Steinem, Germaine Greer, and Betty Friedan, who started the modern feminist movement as a means to throw off the yoke of marriage and child-bearing. The goal of socialists in general, as it was with communism and Nazism, was to weaken the family and put the government in its place as teacher, and ultimately, owner of the children. Our public schools are increasingly taking this viewpoint, that they can teach our children to hate traditional family values and ignore teaching the Constitution and Bible and replace them with all sorts of freedoms of choice for those who hate traditional values. Sad, though, that few people--even the good and godly--are aware of the great societal, constitutional, and religious freedom disaster that is being cooked while they take their kids to summer baseball leagues, and work several jobs to raise their standard of living (or just pay all the taxes.) Reminds me so much of what happened to Germany when Hitler rose to power. Good Christians either thought Hitler was a passing fancy, or a harmless fool, or someone they had better try to appease. Once he consolidated his power, and took guns from the Jews, and threatened to close all the churches that would not revere him above Christ and display the swastika where the cross had been, it was too late.

I see the other Republicans candidates as either being weak or hesitant out of fear. Seems like we will need "fearless" in our vocabulary, more than ever. Are you fearless?

Fearless wins the day. Always. Sooner or later.

Facing the struggle for religious freedom from Catholic Spain, the Netherlands fought for 80 years for liberty, from 1568 to 1648, under the leadership of prince William of Orange (who himself eventually became a martyr in the struggle). The motto of the House of Orange was: Je maintiendrai! Loosely translated it means: I will resist! I will not give in! I will not compromise!
