Huckabee Teams Up With Conservative Advocates For Unique Take On Minimum Wage Debate
Quote:
According to recent reports, possible GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is working with his recently established nonprofit group, America Takes Action, to produce a series of videos designed to offer a conservative path to end poverty and dependency in the U.S. The first of these videos, posted above, was published this week.

...

Huckabee added to the narrative by highlighting what he believes to be the biggest hurdles toward addressing poverty and high unemployment in America.

...

He advocated taking a novel approach to the ongoing debate over raising the minimum wage.

“Instead of fighting over the minimum wage,” he suggested, “why don’t we focus on solutions that help every American earn his or her maximum wage.”

...

He advocated “moving the power away from Washington where people are so disconnected from the way that so many ordinary Americans live.”

Governmental power is best exercised when it is “local and limited,” he continued, “because the closer government is to the people, the more accountable it is to the people being governed.”

Very nice ad.

It doesn't really offer any solutions above a general appeal to more federalism (local control). But the tone is pitch perfect and the production values are high.

He is running. He is running directly targeting the disillusioned working class. His best rival in that area is Kasich. He will likely also be the most trusted social conservative on issues of SSM, abortion, and the like. That means he may not have to "prove" to the base his fidelity and can pivot to other issues easier than a Walker, Bush, or even Cruz.

This could be interesting.

Effective ad. Reminds me of the Cold War "There's a bear in the woods" ad from Reagan. Liberal hated the ad because it was "simplistic" or "Jingosistic." The ad worked great because it effectively used metaphore to clarify an issue and make it clear where the candidate stood. That was very much needed after four years of Carter's "sophisticated," "complex," and "multi-faceted" "outreach" to the Soviets had destoyed our position in the world.

This ad does the same thing. The first ad reached out to the libertarian wing by reminding voters that Huckabee's view of economic solutions is closely tied to returning power to state and local authorities. This ad reminds defense conservatives that Huck does not follow the "we must understand their motives/we are actually to blame" line of Obama or even at times the Pauls.

Very good start with both ads! Gov. Huckabee is the quintessential communicator.
