The Daily Caller says that he is just forming an exploratory committe. Doesn't mean that he will run for sure.

There is another implication this piece of news brings. This would mean Rand Paul will stay put in the Senate and not run.

He's got nothing to lose. His legions of non-voting supporters are still out there. Though I wish he would stay out so those restless supporters can put their energy behind someone else.

Ron Paul is 75 years old right now. He'll be 77 years old by the time Election Day 2012 rolls around. He's not running.

Despite his age, Ron Paul might still run. It gives him a platform to broadcast his message. there are a lot of people who will donate to his campaign (he had no trouble raising money last time), and that allows him to travel far & wide, preaching his message and garnering media attention. True believers will ignore his age or be in continued denial about his electability.

Wasn't Reagan 78 when he was inaugurated?

I think that's exactly why he's running. He knows he won't win but he values his message so much that he would risk another Obama term to get it out there. That's certainly his right but it seems to me the country would be better off electing a solid conservative (even one who isn't completely on board with his message) rather then splitting the conservative vote and ending up with a loser moderate nominee who then loses to Obama.

I may be wrong, but I thought it was pretty much a given that he was running once he announced his exploratory committee. Has anyone ever announced an exploratory committee and not run?

I think that's right. Additionally, as he said himself, last time he ran for president there was no Tea Party. Some people have identified him as the father of the Tea Party, and so he thinks he can do better this time around.

Of course, he's wrong and Bachmann or someone like that has a better claim to mainstream Tea Party votes because she doesn't have the fringe views on things like foreign policy, currency, etc.

It may sound wrong to say, but I believe he might be a little old. He also doesn't have a very Presidential look. His voice is also a little whiny.

And this isn't anything I have against him. It's what I think would make it hard for him to compete.

The rumor going around that I've been reading about is that Ron Paul has a heavy presence in Maine. He's well-represented and may win the Maine caucus on Saturday. They've said that it'll be between Paul and Romney. Santorum and Gingrich have hardly any presence there. It'll be embarrassing to Romney if he loses to Ron Paul.

That would be awesome if Paul won.....one small step closer to a BC.

I would even be happy with that, just to sock another one to Romney's ego. RP can have one state. :)

Romney losing Maine would just underscore his weakness. I expect him to win Maine though. It would be nice if Paul won though. I do agree a lot with Ron Paul. I've had thoughts of supporting him, but I just can't because of his international views. I'm all for downsizing military bases overseas in places where they shouldn't be (like Germany), but he does not understand the threat from Islam. They are trying to revive an Islamic Empire in the Middle East. The first target will be Israel. Muslims consider any land that was once Islamic to be their land. Israel is their land. Also, Spain was once Islamic, so that land is theirs too. Why do you think they bombed Spain? Southeastern Europe was also Islamic under the Ottoman Empire. They will target that as well. His views on economic policy are spot on, but the first job of a president is to protect the people. Someone who does not understand that threat is incapable of doing their first priority job.
