Huckabee should be coming on soon.

Thanks, Granny T. I just got the last minute. It sounds like Huckabee likes the idea of America limiting involvement in Afghanistan to doing "surgical strikes against terror cells." This is not a country where we will be able to bring or establish democracy. I like Huckabee better all the time as a foreign policy chief.

Also, I think Bill Hemmer said he would have Huckabee on his (and Martha McCallum's) show every Friday for this kind of interview. Did I hear correctly?

I DVR'd the segment. Here is a brief summary and "transcript" of the part I though most interesting:

Mike said he will make his decision "within the next let's say month to 2 months."

Hemmer: "...What's holding you back?"

Huckabee: "...It's not the external things that people look at. I mean I've got incredible numbers in the polls...I think the financial base is beginning to assemble, all those things. But, do you know what it comes down to? It's internal. Do I really want to put my family and myself through this process and do I believe that Republicans can do something other than balkanize themselves? I worry about that, Bill. Because, there seems to be this sense of fracture where people want you to be everything or nothing...Ronald Reagan would have a very difficult if not impossible time being nominated in this atmosphere of the Republican Party..."

I rewound to get Bill's exact quote on that: "We'll continue this conversation in a week. We talk every Friday."

I don't know if that means Huckabee will be on every Friday or just that they talk to each other every Friday. :?:

I worry that, maybe, Governor Huckabee no longer has the "fire in the belly" that is necessary to win. Much as I love him and no one else will do for me, he does sound very hesitant and not 100% in...I think someone would have to give it all that they have got in order to win. Last time out it was that fire that ignited me to Huckabee and made me believe, (no matter what the polls said) he could win. Being president is a tough commitment. I really would love for him to be the next president but only if it's right for him.

IMO Governor Huckabee is being completely honest that he hasn't totally decided yet. I've read numerous rumors that he's "leaning toward" running again. But, I have also heard that he needs enough money to support them while he can't work. So, it is understandable that he needs to point out that he hasn't made that decision in order to keep his day job as long as he needs it to fit a campaign in the family budget. If it sounds too much like he's decided to run FOXNEWS will be forced to suspend him like they did Gingrich and Santorum.

I was encouraged to read the recent article about Ed Rollins starting up the campaign behind the scenes. I was also encouraged to read "Huckabee said he is seriously “contemplating and praying” about running for president. And while his wife supports him becoming a candidate again, he said he’s just not sure." http://marylandreporter.com/2011/05/05/huckabee-helps-md-gop-raise-money-as-he-looks-at-presidential-run/

Let's all pray together with Gov. Huckabee that God will lead him to make the right decision for him, his family, and America. :pray

I understand what Huck is saying there. But if he's being honest - and I'm sure he is - it's kind of disappointing. The way things are in the polls demonstrating that he is one of a couple who has the best chance to beat Obama, the way things are heading in this country, Mike Huckabee quite simply has a responsibility to run for president. It's his duty. Maybe that's harsh and probably even hypocritical since I'd have the same concerns he expresses there, but nevertheless it's what I think.

Right you are! It has to come with deep within. But we have to help put that "fire in the belly." He has said he would run "in a minute" if he knew he had the necessary support.

Part of indecision is the doubting. I remember that my husband (boyfriend at the time) would say, "I love you," pretty soon into our acquaintance, and it took me a long time to be so sure. (He was five years older and I was still in school.) But I remember the day I made my decision to say, "Yes, I love you, too." What a difference my confidence level took (as well as his!) from that time forward! The next crisis time was for me to get past the problem with a difference in our faith backgrounds and whether this should keep us from marrying. When we decided the problem was more with our family's loyalties, and not any real difference in belief, we were able to make another decision to become engaged to marry. What a joy we experienced once the commitment was made! With Huckabee, the hardest hurdle is right now deciding if he should commit or not. The positives and the negatives go back and forth in one's mind. But I also think that once the Governor makes the decision to run (I hope and pray) there will be no problem with the fire in the belly.

I think truly (and I talked a little to him personally about this on the bus tour) it is the prayers of his supporters that will give him the wisdom and strength to decide if he is to run, and then to strengthen him to run. HE IS COUNTING ON OUR PRAYERS! Do you pray each day? Sometimes I feel frustrated in getting people to believe that this is sooooo important. More so than poll numbers, etc. That's what he wants from us now. Prayer. It really is one of the best things we can do for Huckabee and his family right now. Please pray, for this is an internal struggle over whether he wants to subject himself and his family to the kind of pressures, negative bashing of the media, and the powerful spiritual forces of darkness that are overtaking America or play it safe. Politics has gone beyond dirty to cutthroat. Pray that we can help Governor Huckabee reintroduce Vertical Politics. Pray that we will determine never to give in or give up in our effort to save America from its rapid slide to the loss of freedom and into bankruptcy and socialism or worse.

I believe Huckabee is the only Republican leader with the positive appeal to people in general to pull off a victory against Obama. Therefore, he must run in my books. But I feel very sorry for him if he is the Republican candidate, knowing the slings and arrows that might come from such powerful opposition as Rush Limbaugh and the Romneybots, not to mention the liberals. Yet I feel very confident he can win. The battle will be harder than ever. But, again, would any of us want to subject ourselves and our families to such a grueling process? Not unless we knew we had Steadfast supporters here and across America.

Never underestimate the power of grass roots support! That means, YOU!! and me. Even more, never underestimate the power of prayer. I do not know of any secular way to say this, but if you are a person of faith, you should understand this side of the battle.

If he gets in, he'll be all in. I'm sure he knows Ecclesiastes 9:10. ;)

If it were just a matter of what’s best for Mike Huckabee and family, I doubt that he would run. But the thing that lies at the root of Mike’s character is the fact that he thinks in terms of “what does God want me to be doing with my life?” If he is convinced that, like Esther, he has been placed in this position “for such a time as this,” then he will run. And his conviction that this is God’s will for him will give him the drive and the strength to endure whatever arrows are shot his way and whatever financial sacrifice he must endure.

If he does run and ends up losing, you can be sure that the Lord will not let him or his family be in want. He will have the enduring appreciation of many, many people in this country. He will remain as popular and significant a leader as he is today.
