The outlook was uncertain for the Hucktown crowd that day
The polls were looking good in all the states that were in play
And then when word came out that Huck would let his supporters know
A sickly silence fell upon all viewers of his show

Many of the insiders gave up with deep despair. The rest
Clung to the hope which springs eternal in the human breast,
They thought, if only Huck would run then all would be all right
They said “Run, Huck, Run” we are ready for the fight!

But the insiders and the pundits said that there’s no way
One said he had not talked to me so running’s not in play
So with the Hucktown crowd grim melancholy sat
But then again just maybe Huck would change all that

Then from millions of viewers their rose a lusty yell
It rumbled through Des Moines, and rattled to Greenville
It knocked upon the White House and recoiled everywhere
For Huck, mighty Huckabee was live on the air

There was ease in Huckabee’s manner as he took his place
There was pride in Huckabee’s bearing and a smile on Huckabee’s face
And when the crowd responded with cheers he could not hear
He started to explain what his plans would be this year

Huck explained so clearly that all was falling into place
Money, polls and family support that was needed for the race
The crowd was on their feet thinking that the race would be a go
But then the air was shattered because the answer was a “No”

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright
The band is playing somewhere and somewhere hearts are light
And somewhere men are laughing and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Hucktown- Mike Huckabee has bowed out.
