What are SC absentee voting laws like? anyone? Maybe they're bitterenders, maybe early voters.

Though Cain would have to be reeeeaaaallll early.

Not sure on the absentee laws, but I did hear that Stephen Colbert was asking viewers to vote for Cain as a proxy for him on the ballot. Could be part of it. Definitely the absentee voting wouldn't be early enough for Cain votes to have been in before he dropped out though.

Yep, I was just about to post that. Cain and Colbert even did a joint event together in South Carolina recently. I don't think Cain realized the joke was on him.

Part of it is not understanding how they win every internet poll by double digits and then struggle to finish in the double digits in the polls that matter. Huge disparity of expectations.

Statistics. They should settle out with the exit polls projections. Exits can be off badly (6% or more). We'll see but if I was a Newt supporter I'd be confident.

The early results might be absentee votes that were pre-counted. That would explain a lot.

Now the actual votes are starting to reflect the projections.

Watching Romney spin this result should be amusing...............spinning is one of his strengths. 8)

It looks like Santorum will probably come in 3rd and not 4th. Good for him. He'll probably stay in through Florida.

Speaking as a Santorum supporter, I still find this comment kind of humorous considering that there are only 4 candidates left in the race. At least he did better than Cain! Haha. In all seriousness, I do appreciate your trying to cheer up us Santorum supporters on a night that is clearly not going our way. I just watched an interview on CNN with Santorum, though, in which he seemed pretty committed to going forward from here through Florida and beyond. One of CNN's pundits (Ari Fleischer?), made the point that he has reason to stay in, given Newt's propensity to be his own undoing.

So, yes, feeling a bit discouraged tonight, but still feeling confident in my choice and hopeful for the future!

Looking at the numbers now, he's doing better than recent polls suggested he would. So that's the optimistic take.

What the (a word that is not a curse which would violate posting rules at HA  sincerely the moderator) is Mitt talking about? He's talking as if he's won the state. He must have had that speech prepared long time ago and didn't want it to go to waste or something...

He does use a teleprompter doesn't he?

I suppose they forgot that he might lose.

Dang, Fox News showing Newt's opened up a 14 pt. advantage over Mitt w/ 21% reporting. Mitt is getting "boat-raced" tonight (favorite term of Gamecock head baseball coach Ray Tanner for all non-Gamecocks out there).

EDIT: Now showing 15 pt. lead for Newt over Mitt w/ 24% of the vote in.

When you're the inevitable one like Mittens, losing just is not acceptable!
