A friend of mine knowing that I still regret Mike not running, suggested that if Romney gets the nomination - which seems increasingly likely - he will want to shore up the Evangelical/conservative wing, so Mitt should consider asking Mike to run as VP! If that happened, and Mike said yes, the friend continued, would I consider voting for that ticket??

Wow.

That's the stuff of nightmares.

He would probably never pick Huckabee. I'm starting to get really depressed that our next president will be either Obama or Romney. I guess this country just hasn't had enough pain yet. Some in Europe are starting to figure out that socialism just doesn't work. We are a long way from that happening. It might be better to just let Obama win, and when the crash comes have the Democratic Party be 100% to blame for it so people will actually turn away from socialism.

I like Gingrich as a candidate, but he has no shot of being the nominee. Santorum's chances are fading fast as he seems to be slipping everywhere, and he's our only shot to stop Romney. People are just so desperate to stop Obama that they'll take anyone. The problem is that Romney isn't much better.

I don't think that the welfare state here in America can be dismantled because too many people support it. It's just going to have to collapse under its own weight, and the best we can do is try to protect ourselves and our families.

Agreed that I don't think Romney would pick Huckabee. Huckabee isn't well loved enough by conservatives broadly speaking, and Romney's weakness is with conservatives broadly speaking, so he'll go for someone else who is more broadly appreciated (McDonnell, Jindal, Rubio, Portman, Ayotte, Rand Paul, Thune, Condi Rice, Coburn?, Daniels, Martinez).

At this point, I don't see Santorum or anyone being able to overcome Romney. I give him credit for trying and working hard, but at the end of the day, he was a relatively weak candidate, even if he was stronger than the rest of the field (excepting Pawlenty...).

Frankly, at this point, I'll be happy supporting Romney in the general. Obama's such a low bar that a Romney administration would be downright brilliant and sensible.

They waste, they wither worse; they as they run
Or bring more or more blazon man’s distress.
And I not help. Nor word now of success:
All is from wreck, here, there, to rescue one—
Work which to see scarce so much as begun
Makes welcome death, does dear forgetfulness.
Or what is else? There is your world within.
There rid the dragons, root out there the sin.
Your will is law in that small commonweal…

I agree that Romney would never pick Gov. Huckabee as vp. I also believe Gov. Huckabee is not in the least interested in the job. He has made it prefectly clear he is happy at FOX and wouldn't want to leave. He has many exciting endeavors lined up and surely wouldn't want to give all that up to be in a job where you basically do nothing. I can see where some would want to "dream" that ticket up considering how badly we'd like to see Huck make it to the White House and some may think that't the best road to get there. Woudn't want to take away your hope, but I can't buy into it.

Why the horror? I don't know if it would be enough to win but it would make a very good pairing. I don't think Huckabee would accept it either.
