Republican National Convention events delayed due to Isaac

Quote:
The events planned for the Republican National Convention on Monday will be postponed due to severe weather predictions near the conference's host city, Republican officials said Saturday.

"The Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th," said Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in a statement Saturday. "After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket."

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to reach the Florida mainland early next week.

The RNC plans to submit a revised schedule Sunday, Priebus wrote in a memo to convention attendees.

I don't see how there's enough time to schedule 4 days worth of speakers into 3 days. Seems Monday's speakers would be out.

That's what I'm thinking too. Ann Romney was already moved to Tuesday night so that her speech would be broadcast on network tv.

Im reading Romney is intentionally cutting Gov. Huckabee because of the controversy over the Akins matter. If Huckabee doesn't speak Perkins says Romney will not win the election. I wasn't voting for Romney anyway but if he does indeed cut Governor Huckabee I'll almost be tempted to volunteer for Obama.

I had said in another thread that if Romney caves to the people not wanting Huckabee to speak he can kiss my vote goodbye! I was starting to lean towards him (because I'm so scared of what Obama will do to our country) but this would solidify my vote for a 3rd party!!

It would really be sad if Huckabee lost his spot - I would lose nearly all my new-found respect for Romney that I've gotten in the past months.

Now, we don't know yet if this means Huckabee is cut, but they better give us an answer soon. Bet Huckabee will let us now as soon as he knows.

There are pictures posted (today, Sunday the 26th) on Huckabee's facebook of him speech prepping at the convention. So at this point I don't think he's out.

So will it be broadcast on the major networks?

Where are you guys finding this info? I don't see anything on Huckabee's FB page.

They're not going to dump the gov's slot, because Mitt knows deep down that Mike not running is the biggest reason why Mitt's the nominee today. Mike became the "stealth surrogate" that terrible night when he announced he wouldn't run.

Frankly, it's probably good Mike didn't run. It might've torn the party apart because Mitt would have had to go above and beyond with destructive politics to beat Mike. And what matters at this point is conservative unity to unseat the president.

I received the time through an email from a friend.

Governor Huckabee said tonight on his show that FOX was completely covering the entire convention, so we should be able to see all of the speeches, I would think.

I know for certain CSPAN will cover every last second and more, so there's always that as well.

Personally, if they did cut him out of the speech because of that, they were right to do so. Huckabee of all people should have known beforehand what a disaster Akins would have been for the Missouri GOP. Then Akins made that extremely objectionable comment and the GOP had to cut him off at the roots or risk repudiation by the electorate.

Do you know why Barack Obama's "You didn't build that" gaffe was so damaging to the Democrats? Because it struck a personal cord with people. Same thing with Akins comment. Personally, I wish that both Huckabee and Palin kept their noses out of the primary and we could have avoided 6 more years of McCaskill. Instead, we are stuck with her because Akin refuses to give up to a non-damaged person. Huckabee is the main backer for Akin and the reason why Akin wouldn't drop his bid.

Quite honestly, I wish outsiders would get a clue and not jump into a local election they know nothing about, and then attempt to paint it as "us vs. them" when it is not that. That is why I fully support them dropping Huckabee in revenge for the Akin fiasco. There are some lines you don't cross and Huckabee crossed them.

15 minutes, well that's something. How long was he supposed to talk, originally?
