America Takes ACTION (ATA) is Gov. Mike Huckabee’s newly formed C4, founded on the principle that societal change is a result of good people uniting and acting together. ACTION stands for Activating Citizens to Impact Our Nation. - See more at: ... WMLhM.dpuf

What is a 501 (c) 4?
For a great overview, look here.

Essentially, a 501(c)(4) is an inefficient way to spend money politically -- unless there is a high premium on keeping the identity of donors secret.

Examples of groups that have long existed as 501(c)(4) organizations include: the National Rifle Association, the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood and the National Organization for Marriage. Most of these organizations have been active in lobbying -- and more recently, since the Supreme Court's 2010 decision in Citizens United v. FEC, they also have been otherwise involved in politics. But they also pursue other activities related to promoting their cause. Since Citizens United a number of groups that seem to be largely about politics have also emerged, and these top CRP's list of top-spending political nonprofits. This list includes: Karl Rove's group, Crossroads GPS; the Koch brothers-affiliated Americans for Prosperity; and the liberal Patriot Majority.
Another example is Obama's Organizing for Action (OFA)

So, that's all I could find so far. I sent an email to Alice Stewart to find out if there has been a formal statement yet, but it seems this is breaking news.

UPDATE: Per Alice Stewart, the new website is nearing completion.

Thank you, Christopher, for the "breaking news" and picking up on it and investigating a little more about the 501(c)4 designation to protect the donor's privacy. Isn't it interesting that Gov. Huckabee also wants to abolish the IRS? :-)

Bill Goins here has been promoting Save2014 and Save2016 to sign up people to become more actively involved in winning elections for conservatives. (Please go to and sign up! Get out the vote and help turn the Senate to a Republican majority to deter Harry Reid!)

This "America Takes Action" sounds like another way to get people involved and advance conservative politics and races. With the Huckabee name recognition (how different from 2008!) he will be a great spokesman for a political action group. Reminiscent of the Moral Majority, perhaps, that reached and activated millions of Americans.

More background on 501c4 and how it may be used:

Reading Eagle reports that Santorum has founded a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization called Patriot Voices. The purpose of Patriot Voices, Young reports, is “to mobilize 1 million conservatives around the country to promote faith, family, freedom and opportunity.”
Why would Santorum found a (c)(4) instead of amping up the work of his PAC? One possible reason could be the veil of secrecy afforded to donors to 501(c) organizations, while PAC donors are disclosed to the public. Santorum says that Patriot Voices will work with his primary-season super PAC, the Red White and Blue Fund. In this case, working together could potentially involve donors giving to Patriot Voices without disclosure and then Patriot Voices could make a donation to the PAC (disclosed as a contribution from Patriot Voices, without listing Patriot Voices’ individual donors).

Patriot Voices will give all readers a link to Santorum’s latest “status update” statements (basically, where Santorum stands on the issues of the day).

The Campaign for Liberty (C4L) is a political organization founded by twelve-term United States Congressman Ron Paul. Campaign for Liberty focuses on educating elected officials and the general public about constitutional issues, and currently provides a membership program. Its legal status is that of a 501(c)(4) nonprofit.
The Campaign for Liberty was announced on June 12, 2008 as a way of continuing the grassroots support involved in Ron Paul's 2008 presidential run, and corresponded with the suspension of that campaign.[citation needed] Paul formally announced during the Texas Republican Convention that he had created this new organization known as the "Campaign for Liberty".
